How to Get Rid of Cockroaches in Your Kitchen (Fast & Safe Methods)

by Faisal Haroon 24 Jul 2026 0 Comments

Why Kitchens Are Cockroach Hotspots

Kitchens offer everything cockroaches need to survive — food, water, and warmth. Grease behind the stove, crumbs under the fridge, and damp areas under the sink are their favourite hiding spots. If you've spotted one cockroach in your kitchen, there are likely dozens more hiding nearby.

Step-by-Step: How to Get Rid of Cockroaches in Your Kitchen

1. Deep Clean First

Before any treatment, remove all food debris. Clean behind appliances, inside cabinets, and under the sink. Cockroaches thrive on grease and crumbs — eliminating their food source weakens the infestation.

2. Use a Cockroach Killer Gel

Gel baits are the most effective method for kitchen cockroach control. Unlike sprays, gels are odourless, safe to use near food preparation areas, and work through a cascading effect — one cockroach eats the bait and spreads it to the rest of the colony.

Apply small dots (pea-sized) of cockroach killer gel in cracks, corners, and behind appliances. Avoid wiping the area after application.

3. Seal Entry Points

Use silicone sealant to close gaps around pipes, under doors, and in wall cracks. This prevents re-infestation after treatment.

4. Fix Moisture Issues

Repair leaking pipes and ensure the area under your sink stays dry. Cockroaches are attracted to moisture as much as food.

5. Repeat Treatment Every 2–3 Weeks

A single application may not eliminate the entire colony. Reapply gel bait every 2–3 weeks until no activity is observed for 30 days.

What NOT to Do

  • Don't use sprays near gel bait — the repellent effect will stop cockroaches from eating the bait.
  • Don't apply gel in open areas where it can be wiped away easily.
  • Don't ignore the problem — cockroach populations double every few weeks.

How Long Does It Take?

With consistent gel bait application, most kitchen infestations are under control within 2–4 weeks. Severe infestations may take up to 6 weeks.

Final Tip

For best results in Pakistani homes, use a professional-grade cockroach killer gel that targets both German and American cockroach species — the two most common types found in Pakistani kitchens.
